My freshman year of college, I was not completely sure about what I wanted to study. I have a lot of interests and hobbies, but it can be tough to transfer what you like into a career. Over the summer, I completed an internship with my mother’s friend, Ms. Myleik Teele. She owns Art of Facts PR, an Atlanta-based public relations and marketing firm. During my internship, I learned a lot about the industry, internships and myself.

With that being said, there are numerous lessons I’ve learned outside of the classroom. The first big lesson I’ve learned is about relationships. True friendships are extremely important and valuable. Many of the good friendships I had when I was in high school are either strained or completely over. I’ve come to terms with those friendships ending because I have a greater appreciation for the relationships that did last. The people who genuinely want to be in your life make an effort to do so; those are the relationships I put time and effort into.

With nearly a decade of successful project management & publicity experience working with clients such as Prince, Linkin Park, American Idol, Christina Aguilera, and Travis Barker, our resident social butterfly certainly knows a thing or two about networking. Read along or listen and learn from her podcast.
1. Be prepared when meeting people at networking events
I never would leave it to chance to spend my time going somewhere hoping that there’s somebody there that I may want to connect with. I always think that you should spend more time doing your research to find out who the who’s who of who you need to be connecting with and network with a plan. Otherwise just going to things is a waste of time.
